"Grandson, when our family came over here from Ireland, their name was McGary.  Their were two brothers that set sail to the New World.  They  saw  that all around them there were "Mc's", so they changed their name, dropped the "Mc" and became "Gary"."

 That was the story that was told, however, in viewing the facts, that might not be altogether correct.  In the family that is located in Maine in the 1800's , they sometimes used the name "Gary", and sometimes used the name "Gerry". 

  Here is where our research begins concerning the Gary-Gerry lines throughout the "New World".
